Spring is here, the snow is gone and it's warm outside. It's time to add fertiliser to your green roof for lush growth and flowering. A green roof is an enclosed ecosystem that requires care.

Fertilization, removing weeds and leaves, adding soil, planting seeds and repairing damage. By doing these works on time, the service life of the green roof is extended, and the eyes rejoice in the green carpet on the roof.

Spring fertilization is vital in green roof management for several reasons:

Plant nutrient demand: in spring, plants start an active growing season, when they need plenty of nutrients to grow healthy and productive. Fertilising the soil in spring ensures that the plants receive enough necessary nutrients, such as nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium, to allow them to develop and produce a good harvest.

Winter effects: during the winter, nutrients in the soil can be leached, leading to nutrient deficiency in the ground. Spring fertilization helps to replace lost nutrients and restore the optimal nutrient level of the soil.

Plant health: balanced nutrient intake helps plants resist disease and pests. Well-fertilized plants tend to be stronger and more resistant to stress, such as drought or pathogens.

Crop quality and quantity: spring fertilization can promote plant growth and development, which can lead to higher yield and better quality. Sedum plants, for example, can produce a denser rosette from the plant, or a more succulent carpet on a green roof saturated with colour and green biomass, provided they receive sufficient nutrients during their growth.

Environmental sustainability: properly planned and executed spring fertilization can help reduce nutrient leaching into the environment and improve soil structure. This contributes to the Sustainable Development Goals of settlements and municipalities and supports the environment in the long term.

However, it is important to fertilise the right amount of fertilisers and the right choice of fertilisers to avoid the harmful effects of over-fertilisation, such as water pollution or excessive salinisation of the soil. We will help you to choose the optimal amount of fertilizer and fertilize your green roof effectively. Contact us.
